Much of Branch Associates’ work is centered on evaluating social programs, primarily geared toward improving the lives and outcomes of low-income individuals and communities. Branch Associates evaluates programs administered by government agencies at a local and national level, foundations, and nonprofit organizations. Branch Associates’ program evaluations examine program effectiveness, implementation, and best practices using a variety of methodological and analytical techniques.
Branch Associates’ staff have expertise in both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. Staff often work with clients to develop customized research questions and designs to best answer those questions. Branch Associates is highly experienced in data collection utilizing site visits, program observations, key informant interviews, focus groups with adults and youth, case studies, document review, and survey design and administration. Branch Associates has worked on projects that utilize random assignment, quasi-experimental design with comparison groups, and pre-post designs.
Branch Associates conducts systematic analyses of all data collected for program evaluations. Staff analyzes qualitative data using content analysis to uncover themes and patterns, utilizing software such as N’Vivo to assist in sorting and grouping qualitative data where appropriate. Staff also have experience working with large quantitative data sets and utilizing a variety of analytic techniques including descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, multivariate analysis such as OLS and logistic regression analysis, power analysis, and reliability testing.
Branch Associates’ reports on findings from program evaluations aim to present results in a clear and concise manner, and provide useful recommendations for program administrators, funders, and staff.
